hi folks

im looking to go somewhere to play some live poker. at the casino here in nova scotia they only have no-limit, and in cash games, i prefer to play fixed limit. besides, i like to travel.

however i'm wondering if i have to travel to vegas (like i did last time and had a blast), or if i can find a place similar enough to what i'm looking for here in canada.

so, what i'm asking is if anyone who does play b&m's in canada knows if/where i can meet these 3 requirements in canada?

** inexpensive hotel rooms (at the casino); possibly even a poker rate
** a lot of tourists / casual players
*** FIXED limit holdem (2/4 and up)

Windsor isnt bad but its probably cheaper to fly to vegas than windsor. You would have the ability to casino hop to detroit casinos which is a plus. My bet is on Las Vegas!

Edmonton has often been called the Vegas of Canada. I believe there are now 6 casinos in Edmonton and another in a nearby suburb.

Most of the ring games here are fixed limit, NL games only get running occasionally at the smaller poker rooms. Most places have 3/6 limit holdem and 4/8 limit dealer's choice (holdem/omaha hi, or holdem/omaha hi/pineapple/crazy pineapple) as their standard/always running games. Sometimes higher limit games get going, but I haven't sought them out much

I don't know about special room rates or comps for poker players. The new Enoch reserve casino/resort (just outside of Edmonton, something like 10 or 15 minutes from West Edmonton Mall) has a huge poker room and are marketting themselves as a tourist destination. I have yet to visit it myself though.

I think Vegas still wins hands down because they have:
- free drinks while playing
- way, way more tourists
- many casinos within walking distance, with all sorts of games spread (in Edmonton you will need to drive/cab between casinos)
- good comp programs

I will be in Vegas in early June for a week and a half. Somewhere around June 2nd through to June 13th. I'm planning on playing a couple of the preliminary WSOP events.

Hey M.
Gl with it. If it works out real well you'll only need a one way ticket eh?

You driving or flying? I'm assuming the latter.

When I talk to C later today I will get the name of a site she uses for booking flights only. Her most recent flight to FLA(one way) cost $67.00 total is near $127.00 taxes etc in. Return flight was a tad more but way less than regular fare.

Anyway. I'll either call you or e-mail the details sometime before the weekend is over.

one way or the other, ttyl.
David

Kornholio, not to hijack the post, but which poker rooms have you been to in Edmonton? I too live in the city, but I've never played live here (or anywhere for that matter). I am really only interested in low limit NL (ie. 1/2 at the highest).

The fact that you guys have a casino in the mall is so awesome. I'd gladly go on shopping trips with the wife.

I play mostly at the Baccarat casino (downtown), where they spread 3/6 LHE, 4/8 Dealer's choice and only very rarely 1/2 NL ring games. The new Century casino seems to be the same, although I was only there when they first opened.

I've been to Yellowhead and Casino Edmonton (on Argyll road) a few times. Either of these two are probably your best bet for finding a 1/2 NL ring game.

I haven't been to the new Enoch reserve casino, but I would imagine they have some NL there as well.

go to niagara falls as you can hop between fallsview, casino niagara, and the niagara, NY casino :) all 3 casinos are open 24 hrs, and as long as there is people at the table, the dealer will deal :)

You might be able to get a better package deal to Vegas rather than Niagara. Niagara is a fishy at times if you do make it there. Probably the best touristy place in Canada to play poker.
