What would you guys do here? I won a seat in the Titan Sunday $200K....made it through about half the field (I was about average in chips and second in chips at my table) and then this hand came up at the 75/150 blind level:

Seat 1: Morpheus1977 ($3,780 in chips)
Seat 2: Player2 ($XXXX in chips)
Seat 3: Player3 ($XXXX in chips)
Seat 4: Player4 ($XXXX in chips)
Seat 5: Player5 ($XXXX in chips)
Seat 5: Player6 ($XXXX in chips)
Seat 5: Player7 ($XXXX in chips)
Seat 8: Player8 ($XXXX in chips) DEALER
Seat 9: Player9 Post SB $75
Seat 10: Player10 Post BB $150
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Morpheus1977 [6  6 :club:]
Morpheus1977: ??

What would you normally do with any of the small pocket pairs for that matter when UTG?

You have 25 BBs, but we have no info on who or how many behind you are desperate, etc.

Given no further info, I'd throw it away here. In cash game it's different, cause I'll have anything in that spot and everyone who knows me knows it.

P.S. Next time you win a seat to a good tourny, let me know so I can watch.

66 UTG would be an easy fold for me depending on the stack sizes of the blinds. I'm probably only opening with at least 77 or 88+.

Welcome back Morpheus!! Where were you for the league?

I think you can just fold here, but depends on how the table is playing and your image. But normally this is just a fold with your chip stack utg.

search pocket5s. Anette wrote a great article/post on playing small pairs utg. I actually keep it on my desktop for reference as I can't remember what to do in that situation.

How did u end up doing that tourney? I had a top 50 stack throughout the 1st hour, then I simply just forgot to play while card dead.

I took a temporary break from poker.....just been lurking and watching poker TV......missed the league......

I think I had a realization after I played the hand. I ended up raising to 400, then someone in mid position pushed all in for 1400 total and I decided to call (with a coin flip at best). It was a coin flip as he turned over AQ.....he hit his Q on the turn. Lost like half my stack on that hand.

Then the very next hand I get AJ in the BB and the same guy limps in. I stick it all in and he calls with JJ......bye bye Morpheus.

In an aggressive tourney like this, small pairs in EP are tough to play. In some of the lower buy in tourneys you could totally get away with limping in and seeing a cheap flop.....but not in the bigger buy in tourneys. With my stack size, I think folding is the best play.

What you got to think about is your risk reward based on what you have in front of you. Ya, you might be UTG but thats ok. Limping here is fine to do. You have enough big blinds (25) that limping wont commit you to do anything you really dont want to. If say you get 2 other limpers..... you flop a set. You will get paid off somehow. I think in tournaments the best way to get alot of chips is to hit those sets. Ya most times it wont hit, so what you lose one BB, which really doesn't effect the outcome of your play.

They are easy folds when you miss, easily hidden in when you hit...especially in tournament play where people take alot more chances.

If that set you can get you a chip stack then I say limp and take your chances.

Raising is probably the worst thing to do, becuz as you see someone reraised all in and you were hopping for a coin flip. If you limped for 150 and seen a guy go all in for 1400, simple fold.

Plus....if you do raise and just win blinds...who cares... you dont want just the blinds with small pps in that situation. Make it so you can get some serious chips flying your way.

I"m lazy to link so i'll post.

Assuming utg at 9 handed table: (Very small or no ante)

Edit- This of course depends on the table and their callingranges as mentioned in the thread, but this is just some pointers if ur at a random table with no reads on the players

50x+
limp or raise

25x+:
raise all pps

20x-25x:
22-55 fold
66+ raise

15x-20x:
22-66 fold
77+ raise

12x-14x:
22-88 fold
88+ raise and call shove

10x-11x:
22-77 fold
88+ shove

9x:
22-44 fold
55+ shove

8x or less:
shove any pp

With antes later in tourneys:

14x-15x:
22-55 fold
66-88 raise and fold to shove
99+ raise and call shove

13x:
22-77 fold
88+ raise and call shove

11x-12x:
22-77 fold
88+ shove

10x:
22-33 (cant decide what to do with 44 lol) fold
55+ shove

9x or less:
shove any pp

Just felt like taking some responsibility and get some poker back up on the board after all this drama :)

Annette
