  • The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour (EPT) announced the first half of its Season 6 schedule, which features seven stops in seven different countries.  The season will kick off in Moscow August 18th through the 23rd with a 200,000 + 12,000 RUB buy-in event, capped at 600 runners.  Barcelona is next September 4-9, followed by London (October 1-7), Warsaw (October 20-25), Vilamoure, Portugal (November 17-22), Prague (December 1-6), and the Bahamas with the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (January 4-14).  Last season, over €55 million in prize pool money was doled out on the EPT with 7,980 players from 97 countries participating.  While the World Poker Tour is more well known to the general public, the EPT has now surpassed the WPT in both total prize pool and players.  As always, satellites abound for the various EPT stops on PokerStars.com (over 3,000 players in Season 5 were PokerStars.com qualifiers).

  • Playboy TV, of all channels, began airing a new poker show this month.  “Sam’s Game,” named after “The Simpsons” co-producer Sam Simon, is to be a sneak peek into what its like to sit down at Simon’s famous Hollywood home game.  From the clips we’ve seen, the poker is terrible, but that’s not the point.  The table talk is what will get people to tune in.  With poker buddies such as comedians Dave Attell, Jeffrey Ross, Artie Lange, and Norm MacDonald, there is little doubt that only the tamest conversations will be R-rated.  Playboy Playmates will also play, as well as deal, highlighted by Annie Duke’s friend and “The Celebrity Apprentice” final four member, Brande Roderick.  WSOP bracelet winner, Academy Award nominee, and maybe most importantly, Sam Simon’s ex-wife, Jennifer Tilly, is also slated to participate.

  • Deutsche Bank has named Playtech, owner of the iPoker network (Titan Poker, CD Poker), its “best play on medium term growth in the online gaming sector.”  In the near term, Deutsche Bank is excited about the revenue increase the company will see from the migration of William Hill to the Playtech platform.  Add to that new licensees and cross-selling, and Playtech should experience strong growth this year, particularly in the second half of the year.  Long term, Deutsche Bank believes that if online gambling is legalized and regulated in the United States, Playtech could benefit from new companies entering the market looking for a stable software platform.  Shares of Playtech closed down 4.50p, or 0.94 percent, on the London Stock Exchange Tuesday.
