  • The iPoker network's William Hill Poker is going to try to put its own "bad beat" on cancer next Friday, June 26th.  The UK-based online poker room will host the No Surrender UK Poker Classic in order to raise money for the No Surrender Charitable Trust, a charity which funds a Fellowship for pancreatic cancer research and "provides an online cancer related social network."  The Trust was the brainchild of Jason Boas, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2007 at the age of 33.  He eventually lost his battle with the disease, but not before he raised £150,000.  The tournament will have a $30 buy-in and $20 re-buys, witih 70% of the prize pool going to the No Surrender Charitable Trust.  The winner of the tournament will receive a VIP vacation to Las Vegas, complete with a four night stay at the Bellagio.  William Hill hopes to see 1,000 players join in to raise money for the cause.

  • It seems like the last World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) just ended at PokerStars, but the next one is less than three months away.  As such, PokerStars has released a tentative schedule for the longest running poker tournament series on the internet to assist players in their planning for what will likely be long days of poker playing.  The 2009 WCOOP is slated to run September 3rd through September 20th and will consist of 42 tournaments with over $40 million in guaranteed prize money.  If you can think of a poker game type, it is probably featured…even Badugi.  As usual, the Main Event is a $5,200 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament, this year with a $10 million guaranteed prize pool.

  • UltimateBet announced that it has added a new member to its team of pros, Brandon Cantu.  At 28 years-old, Cantu is one of the "old" young stars of the game.  He made his first cash in a major live tournament a huge won, winning the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em bracelet at the 2006 World Series of Poker.  At the time, that tournament was the largest non-Main Event tournament in the history of the WSOP.  In 2008, Cantu won the World Poker Tour's Bay 101 Shooting Stars championship, making him one of 27 players to have won both a WSOP bracelet and a WPT title.  When he started on the live tournament circuit, Cantu was known for both his bold plays and his brash attitude.  Over the last year or two, he has become more humble, though his style of play can still be wild and loose.
