  • Bodog Poker, now found at its original domain, Bodog.com, is set to kickoff the Bodog Mini Poker Series on Friday.  The Series, which will coincide with the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event, will consist of thirteen varied $10 + $1 Texas Hold'em events (No-Limit, Fixed-Limit, Pot-Limit, turbo, short-handed).  The top thirty percent of finishers in each event will receive Leader Board points and at the end of all thirteen tournaments, the top ten players on the Leader Board will advance to the Bodog Mini Poker Series Final, while the next forty on the Leader Board will make the Semifinal.  Also making the Semifinal will be anyone who played in at least seven of the Series event.  The top eighteen finishers in the Semifinal, along with anyone who played in all of the events plus the aforementioned Leader Board top ten will advance to the Final.  The winner of the Final tournament will receive a seat in the 2010 WSOP Main Event.  Additional prizes will be awarded, as will standard cash prizes for each of the thirteen $11 tournaments.

  • Investment bank, Goldman Sachs, said in a note to investors Monday that it believes online gambling will be legalized and regulated in the United States, although the process will likely be slow.  The company estimated that in 2008, the U.S. poker market was worth $1.5 billion, and that is with online gambling in a legal gray area.  Should internet gaming become fully legalized, Goldman Sachs estimated that figure would double or quadruple, depending on how conservative they wanted to get with their forecasts.  Add in the online casino market, and the total U.S. online gambling market could be as high as $12 billion.  New Harrah's Interactive Entertainment head and ex-PartyGaming CEO, Mitch Garber, also believes it is inevitable for Americans to be free to gamble online.  In an interview with eGaming Review, he said that he feels the industry will eventually consolidate into “a few strong, global operators,” of which his company, which owns the World Series of Poker brand, plans to be one.

  • Tomorrow, July 1st, will mark the debut of the Suzie and Howard Lederer Celebrity Charity Tourney, a new addition to their famous annual World Series of Barbecue.  The tournament, which will be held at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, will cost $330 to enter, with $200 re-buys and one $100 add-on, with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club.  In order to attend the Barbecue, players must not only participate in the tournament, but also purchase two re-buys.  The winner will receive a fantastic prize – a spot at the table on NBC's hit poker show, "Poker After Dark."
