Main Review:

Devilfish Poker is one of the newest rooms on the Entraction Poker Network (formerly the B2B network). While you will always be sure to find a NL Hold’em game from micro-stakes up to about 5/10, high-stakes games are by and large empty. Licensed by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta, the Entraction skin is of course, driven in large part by Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott. As such, the site takes on Devilfish’s brazen yet playful demeanor with aggressive color schemes and profitable (yet odd) promotions.

Devilfish Poker - Game Types:

This is really the strength of Devilfish Poker with 9 different games offered. Not only does Devilfish provide Hold’em, Seven Card Stud and Omaha but also 5 Card Draw, Soko, Deuce to Seven Triple Draw, Telesina, Americana and Caribbean Stud.

Play itself at Devilfish Poker is a bit different than many players may be used to. As it is a European site in thrust, the play can be a bit more passive (but still very loose!) than the generally more aggressive American style. You will also frequently find players from countries like Denmark and the Netherlands who tend to be even more aggressive than Americans. The low and micro-stakes NL Hold’em tables are full (and full of calling stations too) but the big games are mostly empty tables.

As cool as it would be to get involved in a regular game of Americana, you aren’t likely to find it at Devilfish Poker. While the site is doing its part in offering the games, the cold hard truth of the matter is that players are just not buying in. And those who are buying in to those games are doing it at low stakes with nothing but a desire to go all-in – not too many people are going to learn the finer points of Soko.

Devilfish Poker - Software and Features:

Devilfish Poker looks kind of like a cartoon version of Hollywood Poker: lots of reds and blacks and slick aggression like Hollywood, but instead of scantily clad women and celebrities scrolling the margins as on Hollywood, cartoon depictions of Ulliott himself pepper the pages. The site’s texts continually make mention of Devilfish and the site features a long biography of him (but no description of its history as a company or its security protocols) and a bunch of blinking promotion boxes.

The lobby is decent with relatively easy to identify game filter tabs and a running Bad Beat Jackpot counter.

Once in a game, Devilfish Poker is run of the mill at best: no table avatars nor any option to upload your own picture like in PokerStars, a scrolling chat box which cannot be turned off, a scrolling text box summarizing dealer actions and pot results (which does not reset every 2 or 3 hands so you are able to go back deep into the previous action) and red – a lot of red. The table and cards are both red as are the five dollar chips and the sign which is lit up in front of a player who is yet to act. Now it’s a muted red so you don’t suffer a seizure but it’s a whole lot of red to be sure.

The software is well-regarded and there are no words of super-user scandals at Devilfish Poker. Of course, as it is a smaller site, collusion becomes a bit of a worry and to the site’s credit, they do specifically speak to the collusion issue at a further length than most other sites (although again, they don’t identify the technical specificities of the security system.)

Not much in the way of player statistics but with so many accoutrement poker applications for statistics, that’s not much of a loss.

DevilFish runs some of the more creative promotions (in addition to a rakeback and VIP point plan) such as one running concurrently with the 2008 Beijing Olympics: the 2008 Devilympics, a 77 event tournament which will crown the best all-around player (and give him $5,000 in addition to whatever he earns on his own) on Devilfish Poker. The site also runs a lot of tournament and high-stakes summaries, so if you win a tournament on Devilfish, expect to see a write-up with your screen name in it.

Devilfish Poker - Behind the Scenes:

Support at Devilfish Poker is available in German, Finnish, Russian and English. Although there is no phone number to call, support is provided via email in a timely manner. As a newer site Devilfish is very focused on providing the best experience possible so expect fast and thorough responses.

While Mac and Linux players will not be able to download Devilfish Poker, they are able to play by using the non-download software which Devilfish readily provides.

In general, Devilfish Poker plays like the poker equivalent of a Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott fan club. So if you’re a fan of Devilfish (or of bizarre promotions) look no further.
