Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu Canadian Daniel Negreanu, known as “KidPoker” online, got his start in the poker world by frequenting the local underground clubs of Toronto, Ontario. After learning the game at just 15 years of age, Negreanu moved to Las Vegas and in 1998 he became the youngest player to win a world championship event (a record long-since broken): at the age of 23, he won the first WSOP event that he’d ever played—the WSOP Pot Limit Hold’em tournament. In fact, between 1997 and 1999, he won more major tournaments than any other player—12 to be exact. He has gone on to win five more WSOP bracelets; one in 2003, 2004, 2008 and two in 2013.

He has enjoyed success in WPT events as well: in 2004 Daniel Negreanu won two tournaments within a 3 month span taking home nearly $3 million in total prize money. For his efforts over this 2 year span, Daniel was named the World Series of Poker Player of the Year for 2004, and World Poker Tour Player of the Year for 2005.

In 2005-06, Daniel made three more WPT final tables, claiming two 3rds and a 2nd for just under $1.5 million in cashes. By 2007, Daniel Negreanu was on top of the poker world, thus PokerStars quickly signed him to join the likes of Chris Moneymaker , Joe Hachem , and Greg Raymer as Pros representing the world’s largest online poker site. In 2009, Daniel once again made noise at the WSOP, reaching two more final tables: he finished 2nd in the $2500 Limit Hold’em event for $138,280 and 4th in the $10,000 Omaha Hi/Lo event for $130,401.

When asked what he would change about the world of poker, Negreanu says “the negative image,” adding that he would love “for society to see that it can be a healthy profession… Get rid of all the bad apples, the cheats, the badmouths, the hot tempered, etc. If that happens, I can see poker being accepted more readily by mainstream society in the near future.”

Negreanu cites a few players that he respects the most: Jennifer Harman for making it to the top of a 'man's' world; Allen Cunningham for his ability and table demeanor; and Ted Forrest—simply the best.”

Daniel Negreanu currently resides in Las Vegas, where he plays golf and poker all year round.
