Okay. Here's the deal. I recently moved to the Victoria from Vancouver this past summer. Since then, I have found that the View Royal Casino as well as the Nanaimo casino do not offer a poker room (I am currently sending complaints to GCC as we speak). As a result, I have been commuting back to Vancouver every weekend since my move in order to play poker. With the $100 fee for the ferry, as well as gas/food/hotel, my profits are very minimal (almost making the trips not worth it). As you could imagine, I'm getting very annoyed travelling back and forth.

So my question here is, ARE THERE ANY HOUSE GAMES going on around in Victoria. I'm not quite looking for social events where friends get together and play for pennies, but rather more of a serious game. I'm not talking about high-limit cash games, but rather something reasonable for the time spent.

Maybe $40 sit n' go's or 4/8 limit cash.

If there are, plz LMK when and where. 205-884-PENG-Jeff

Or if you'd like to start organizing one, i'd be glad to help(i'd prefer this method). I could do everything but arrange for the players (as my contacts here are very limited right now).

Here are a couple of leads for you:

- Try asking "Brewster" on the www.chiptalk.net forums.
- Google "Victoria Poker League".
- Setup a league in Victoria on my site: www.homepokertour.com
- Try 604poker.com too - maybe there are some Victoria players there.

thanks man, I looked into VPL and others, but I was hoping for something on a more regular basis. But i'm sure this place is a start for getting people.

I would love to start my own house games but a problem is I can't do it in my condo. I live in a condo with a bunch of older people and i'm sure they'd have noise complaints for me if i did. And seeing as how I own, moving isn't an option.

Try going to Prime Time Sports Bar Friday nights, sat afternoons, , Fat Tuesday's or Ma Millers on Saturday afternoons, and hook up with some poker players there. Should be lots of contacts for you to get a home game going with. Once you get to know some players you should be able to fulfil your needs!

I was on the island last weekend and noticed a bar on the #17 between Victoria and Sydney. It had a bilboard that said "Texas Hold'em Ever XXX Night" (I can't remember what night though).

Maybe you can find some players there too?

The Waddling Dog (old name?) on Pat Bay Hwy has weekly tournaments - but this is mainly a promotion for the sale of drinks and food, and each player deals, and top players each week advance to series end. I went to a similar tournament at Sidney Legion... no one shuffled deck (I presume) and the first hand saw a straight (mainly one suit), flush (same suit) and straight flush, (yes, same suit).

There used to be some well-supervised games in Victoria with good dealers but the main one got closed in January 2008 (approx). Go to casino and ask the regular players about 'the club'.

Now I hear that View Royal is finally building a new poker room (after dropping live hold'em about 6 years ago), but have only heard rumours of a possible opening in Feb. 2009.

Good Luck.

I"ve just moved over to Victoria recently and have taken a position at the Old English Inn in Esquimalt. I have a proposal. The Old English Inn can host a Poker Night once a week. We will offer players food and beverage but cannot provide cards, chips etc. If anyone wants to work with me directly on this opportunity then please reply accordingly.[i[/img]

That actually sounds very nice. I think it is great that the Old English Inn hosts a Poker night once a week. Maybe I will also join if this special Poker night still exists. Poker is such a wonderful game and I really enjoy playing it.
