I decided to try one of the Rounders tourneys, so I entered the $5+.5. Top 2 go on to the next level.
First, the good hand - had AQo with 8 people left, I was a middle stack. Flop produced Axx, turn was another rag. One guy went all-in with a slightly smaller stack than me, I called, and another guy went all-in. BOTH had AJ, no Jack fell, and I knocked them both out.
When we got down to 3 people, I had made a great comeback - was down to 400 chips or so at one point and was now in the 3000's. I was heads up against the chip leader - not a great player by any means, but had knocked the first two guys out and maintained his chip lead throughout. I was dealt something like K8s - don't remember the exact replay of the hand, but the flop came with an 8 as the high card, so I was aggressive. Eventually, the board showed 45678 and the chip leader checked the river.
I thought about checking, but decided I might just see if he would fold to a bet. Figured if he calls, we probably split the pot, anyway. Worth a shot. So, I put a smallish bet out there, just to see - and he RAISED me almost all-in. I thought he must have the 9 to give him the higher straight, so I folded.
Congratualted him on the good move and he didn't really understand why I folded. He actually said, "But you had the straight, too." I told him that by his bet, I thought he might have the higher straight, and that's why it was a good move. He said he did not. Essentially, by his comments, I believe he had no idea what he was actually doing, but rather figured that we'd split, so he'd just be silly and bet the house. Well, he got me!
I eventually bowed out in 3rd (one away from the free entry to the next level, poo) when my two pair AJ lost to a set of 8's.
