Hi, I was playing at PokerStars last night and got the same hand twice in a row, pocket 3s. Has this ever happened to you? What do you think the odds are of that happening? Also, less than 1 minute before the 3s I got pocket aces to take down a $20 pot (at a 0.05/0.10 NL table)

I love when I get the same trashy 9s4c on two tables at the same time.

Oh, and this should really be in the Poker Q&A forum.

There is no single answer to this, because you have yet to define your question.

Odds of getting a SPECIFIC pair duplicated, or ANY pair duplicated, or odds of any hand (not having to be a pair), etc....

Hmmm...

I think you only notice once you "get" the hand, the Odds of getting it again are exactly the same as getting the hand for the 1st time.

Its the same with lotto...

Getting "1-2-3-4-5-6" drawn has the same odds as getting "last weeks" numbers drawn.

yeah you're right that getting it the second time is the same odds, but red is saying if its a specific pair you need to factor in the chances of getting that pair to begin with. Odds are lower.

For example, odds of getting a pair the first hand may be 1/10, but the odds of getting pocket threes would be 1/100.

In this case, odds of getting the same pair woudl be 1/10*1/100, whereas odds of getting threes twice would be 1/100*1/100.

These numbers are just for example purposes and are not accurate.

Odds of being dealt a pair is 16-to-1 ~ 6%.
Odds of a SPECIFIC pair skyrockets up to 220-to-1.

If he had AK twice, we'd have to change the numbers again totally because now he has 16 ways to make the hand instead of 6.

Hmm, I spotted the infamouse JL514 guy in that screen shot. One of the biggest donks on Ful-tilt.

How much have you fleeced him for?
