Poker Island Returns on bwin

Published: Friday, May 08, 2009

It’s back! Players on bwin will once again have the opportunity to win their way to Poker Island. Think of it like “Survivor” meets the World Series of Poker. Every week, a tournament featuring the five Poker Island castaways is held. When the smoke clears, the two players who are eliminated first will be booted from Poker Island and replaced by internet qualifiers. The winner of each weekly tournament will be entered into the Poker Island final, where a $25,000 prize package to the 2010 Aussie Millions is on the line. PokerSource.com members can battle it out in a special Poker Island freeroll on Sunday, May 31st, where the winner is assured a spot in the promotion.

Last year, the tropical island paradise of Ibiza served as the event’s location. Poker Island contestants were treated to Jeep tours, powerboat rides, body and soul treatments, windsurfing, sailing, archery, and a variety of parties to make the first class experience a memorable one. There was also a bevy of poker being played, from the weekly elimination tournaments to breakfast and bounty events. In total, the first installment of Poker Island was a resounding success, prompting its triumphant return in 2009.

The PokerSource.com freeroll to Poker Island will be held on Sunday, May 31st at 3:00pm ET. The winner take all tournament awards a $7,000 first place prize package and will take place on bwin Poker. There are two ways to qualify. First, new bwin Poker players can sign up an account between April 17th and May 27th and make at least a minimum deposit. Existing bwin Poker players can qualify by generating at least 100 bwin Points between April 17th and May 27th. In each case, players must have their accounts created through PSO in order to be eligible. In addition, the winner must be of legal age to travel to Poker Island and own a passport.

Last year, PSO player “alen1005” won his way to Poker Island. On his experience, he told PokerSource.com, “The Island was great. The Island is like a party house in which the party never ends. The nightlife is awesome and the beaches are pretty good. It has also some nice places for sightseeing. In the villa, we had everything: a bar with unlimited drinks, lounge room, some nice sports things, and even a private chef who cooked for us.”

Last year’s Poker Island featured a performance by the Pussycat Dolls to close out the festivities on Ibiza. The multi-week promotion was broadcast on television and hosted by Carl “Bobby” Cortes. The 2009 running of the Aussie Millions, which took place in Melbourne, was won by Australian Stewart Scott, who defeated Peter Rho heads-up. Scott banked AUD $2 million for his efforts, or approximately USD $1.5 million at the current exchange rate. A total of 681 players turned out in 2009, down from 780 in 2008, when Russian Alexander Kostritsyn defeated Full Tilt Poker pro Erik Seidel heads-up.
