  • From the “It’s About Time” department, Scotty Nguyen has signed on with online poker room Expekt.com to be the site’s poker ambassador.  Nguyen, who a few years ago had had been associated with UltimateBet for a short time, was considered the most recognizable player not representing an online poker room.  He says that, in addition to representing Expekt.com at the World Series of Poker and other live tournaments around the world, he will write a strategy column once a month and record an exclusive video blog twice a month for the site.  Nguyen won the WSOP Main Event in 1998 and has four other bracelets, including one for last year’s $50,000 HORSE Championship.  Expekt.com is on the iPoker network, which currently ranks third in the industry for cash game traffic, according to PokerScout.com.

  • After Barack Obama was elected President of the United States in November, the website change.gov began taking submissions on issues that the new administration should address.  The results of the 1.4 million votes were compiled and published this week in the Citizen’s Briefing Book.  The poker community made a fantastic showing, pushing the legalization of online poker all the way to the number one spot in the “technology” category.  The entry in the book reads, “Boost America’s Economy with Legal Online Poker: Let online poker players in the United States play legally and without fear of prosecution. Reform the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act to exempt poker, a game of skill, from the law. Boost the economy by letting American companies and American players make money and pay taxes instead of sending online poker businesses offshore. Protect online poker players by regulating the industry to ensure that no one is ever cheated.”    With 46,890 points (representing 4,689 positive votes), the issue ranks eleventh overall.

  • Lee Jones, one of the most popular personalities in the online poker world, as left his post at CardRunners.com to become the cardroom manager at Cake Poker.  In his new role he will act as a players’ advocate, tap into the resources of the online poker community to help improve the site, host cash games and tournaments, and represent Cake Poker at live events.  He has also stated that one of the first things he discussed with Cake management was modernizing its software.  To that end, there is an “active project” underway to completely revamp the poker client.  Jones became a respected figure in the poker community when he served as cardroom manager at PokerStars, a site which he left shortly after the UIGEA took effect.  He is also author of the popular book, Winning Low-Limit Hold’em, published in 2000.
